Rogan & Associates (www.roganfinancial.com) is a financial planning firm located in Florida. Their main office is in Safety Harbor, with two satellite offices; one in Sarasota and the other in Brandon.

Remote Access and VPN

The firm utilizes a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) application that is hosted in the Safety Harbor office and needed a way for their planners to be able to access the CRM when the planners were in the Sarasota office. Per the application developer’s recommendation for remote access, I deployed a Microsoft Remote Desktop (Terminal Services) Server in the main office. By initiating a Remote Desktop Connection, the planners access a virtual desktop which allows for secure and speedy access to their server-based files and the CRM system.

In order for the users in Sarasota to be able to print locally, a way was needed for the Remote Desktop Server to communicate with the network printer installed in Sarasota. I implemented a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connecting the Sarasota network (LAN) to the Safety Harbor network (LAN), and configured the Remote Desktop Server to access the printer in Sarasota.

With this system in place, the planners are now able to access and use the CRM remotely just as if they were in the main office.

Online Backup

Due to the sensitive nature of the data that Rogan & Associates stores, they needed a secure and robust method of backing up their data. One of the Services I offer is Online Backup. By installing a software agent on their server, the data is archived to a Cloud-based Server that resides in a Tier-3 data center. For redundancy and quicker restoration of files, a local backup device that archives the data as well, was also installed in the office.
